The use of goal-line technology, which was successfully deployed again at this year’s FIFA Club World Cup and is much appreciated by referees, was praised by the committee, including European Club Association (ECA) Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and FIFPro Secretary General Theo van Seggelen.
  The system is easy and inexpensive to install at any soccer stadium. Apart from the antennas attached to the goal frames, all that is needed is a special ball. Embedded in the ball are coils that are able to trigger antenna signals and require no power supply. The Derbystar ball has been developed by Danish company Select and Fraunhofer IIS for use with GoalRef™ at the Copa Amsterdam.

California to introduce first 'smartphone killswitch' bill

 

Lawmakers in San Francisco and New York have already asked smartphone makers to install "killswitch" technology that would render a stolen device useless -- but now, a California representative plans to try to make it a law.
